Jordy Mercer hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs and the host Detroit Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 10-6 triumph over the Chicago White Sox in the second game of a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday.

The game was delayed 61 minutes during the fifth inning by inclement weather.

John Hicks had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run, and Miguel Cabrera supplied three hits and scored twice. Gordon Beckham contributed two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

Drew VerHagen (2-2) recorded his first career win as a starting pitcher. He gave up one run on seven hits in five innings.

Ryan Goins had three hits and drove in two runs for Chicago. Leury Garcia supplied three hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Hector Santiago (1-1), called up from Triple-A, gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings for Chicago. The White Sox won the opener 5-3.

In the nightcap, Detroit scored twice in the second inning on Mercer's RBI single and an error by White Sox third baseman Goins.

The Tigers scored a run in the third on Dawel Lugo's sacrifice fly.

The White Sox got on the board in the fifth on Adam Engel's run-scoring double.

Detroit scored a pair of two-out runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Travis Demeritte and Beckham.

The game was then delayed with Mercer at the plate. Mercer walked after the rain delay, and Dylan Covey struck out JaCoby Jones.

The White Sox scored a run off Nick Ramirez in the seventh when Garcia tripled and Goins smacked an RBI single.

Detroit made it 7-2 in the bottom of the inning on Mercer's fifth homer of the season, which followed Beckham's two-out single.

Chicago responded with three runs in the eighth. Engel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Garcia had a sacrifice fly, and Goins added an RBI single.

Detroit got those runs back in the bottom of the inning. Lugo had an RBI single, Hicks followed with an RBI double, and Demeritte added a sacrifice fly.
