Oklahoma 34, Texas 27
When: 12:00 PM ET, Saturday, October 12, 2019
Where: Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Texas
With Oklahoma's back against the wall in the second half, CeeDee Lamb twice came up with big touchdowns as the No. 6 Sooners beat No. 11 Texas 34-27 on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Lamb scored touchdowns of 51 and 27 yards after halftime to help the Sooners take the lead for good and then protect it.
He finished with 10 catches for 171 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored Oklahoma's first touchdown of the game.
A year ago, Texas' offensive outburst in this matchup led to the firing the following day of Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops.
Saturday, it was Alex Grinch's defense that carried the Sooners for much of the game as Oklahoma's offense had some rare struggles.
The Sooners turned the ball over in the red zone twice in the first half.
Lamb's 51-yard score came with a bit of trickery, as Lincoln Riley dialed up a flea-flicker. Jalen Hurts took the pitch back and found Lamb at the 30. At the 20, Lamb appeared to be corralled by five Texas defenders but somehow sped out of the tight grouping and finished in the end zone to put the Sooners (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) up for good.
Hurts threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 131 yards and another score. Kennedy Brooks ran for 61 yards.
Sam Ehlinger threw for 210 yards but no touchdowns for the Longhorns (4-2, 2-1).
The Sooners made life difficult for Texas, sacking Ehlinger nine times and totaling 15 tackles for loss.
It was the sixth consecutive regular-season meeting between the teams that has been decided by a touchdown or less.
The game was heated well before it started, as referee Mike Defee threw a flag 30 minutes before the game, assessing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on every player from both sides after the teams skirmished at midfield.
There were no further unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, which would have led to an ejection. Texas defensive end Malcolm Roach was ejected for targeting in the third quarter.
